Thamma Movie Review: The Ayushmann Khurrana-Rashmika Mandanna Starrer Is Decently Funny, Spooky & Entertaining

Rating: 3.5/5

Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Director: Aditya Sarpotdar

Storyline:

Thamma takes you on a wild supernatural ride where ancient legends crash into modern chaos. Reporter Alok (Ayushmann Khurrana) accidentally stumbles into the world of Betaals, blood-drinkers hidden for centuries.

At its core is Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), the terrifying Thamma locked away in a cave to contain his bloodlust. Sparks fly when Alok meets Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna), a fiery Betaal with a conscience who tries to protect his humanity from her kind and from Yakshasan himself.

But fate plays dirty as Alok turns into a Betaal, forcing him to fight new battles. His father (Paresh Rawal) soon realizes something is very wrong, leading to some hilarious family chaos.

And just when you think it can’t get crazier, Varun Dhawan drops in for a Bhediya vs Betaal face-off that’s equal parts thrilling and fun. Thamma mixes horror, fantasy, and humor into one wild, blood-soaked adventure!

Thamma Movie Review The Ayushmann Khurrana Rashmika Mandanna Starrer Is Decently Funny Spooky Entertaining

Thamma is decently funny, spooky and entertaining for a festive Diwali watch.

Ayushmann Khurrana absolutely nails it as the Desi Vampire. His comic timing is spot-on, and he keeps the energy alive throughout. There’s hardly a dull moment when he’s on screen. The VFX is quite solid, adding just the right amount of bite to the horror-comedy setup.

And when Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya faces off with Ayushmann’s Betaal Alok, it’s some popcorn-worthy fun. Rashmika Mandanna shines as the enigmatic Tadaka and sets the stage on fire with her dance number Tum Mere Na Huye

The chemistry between Ayushmann and Rashmika is cute and refreshing, especially with the role reversal where she’s the one protecting him for most of the film. Sure, the romance gets a little clumsy and cheesy in parts, but it still fits nicely within the horror-comedy vibe.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui looks like he’s having a blast as the villain, though he’s underutilised quite a bit. The climax could’ve been tighter, and a few scenes do drag a little.

But the comedy flows organically for the most part. The humor blends smoothly with the horror and drama, keeping the film consistently entertaining. Ayushmann Khurrana’s effortless timing ensures that even the most bizarre supernatural moments and jokes land well. And Paresh Rawal and Geeta Aggarwal add plenty of warmth as Alok’s quirky parents.

Yes, there are one too many item songs (the one with Malaika Arora feels like an overkill), but Nora Fatehi’s appearance makes up for it; her performance is hypnotic and worth the screen time.

And Saiyaara fans, keep an eye out… Aneet Padda’s entry into the Maddock Horror Universe with Shakti Shalini promises exciting things ahead.

Overall, Thamma is spooky, silly, and solid Diwali fun. It is messy in places but charming, energetic, and entertaining.
