Bollywood has lost one of its brightest stars. Veteran actor Dharmendra passed away at his Mumbai residence on November 24 at the age of 89.
The news has left fans heartbroken, as the iconic star entertained India for over six decades with his charm, talent, and unforgettable screen presence.
Dharmendra had been battling age-related health issues for more than a month. Earlier this month, he was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital due to respiratory complications, but he returned home soon after. Sadly, he breathed his last at his residence.

Dharmendra’s journey in films began in 1960 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. From there, he rose quickly, becoming one of Hindi cinema’s most loved and versatile heroes. Whether it was romance, comedy, or action, he did it all with ease. In the mid-60s, he gained immense popularity with films like Ayee Milan Ki Bela, Phool Aur Patthar, and Aaye Din Bahar Ke. By the 70s and 80s, he was a full-fledged superstar, often referred to as India’s very own “He-Man.”
Some of his most iconic films include Ankhen, Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke, Jeevan Mrityu, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Seeta Aur Geeta, Jugnu, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, and Sholay. His role as Veeru in Sholay remains unforgettable even today. His effortless comic timing in Chupke Chupke and his strong screen presence in Dharam Veer and Pratigya also added to his massive fan following.

Dharmendra’s talent was celebrated not only by audiences but also through several prestigious awards. In 1991, Ghayal won the Filmfare Award for Best Film, and it also earned a National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. He received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.
In 2011, he was honoured with the Phalke Ratna Award, and in 2012, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third-highest civilian honour.
He was last seen in the 2024 film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, and he will next be seen posthumously in the Agastya Nanda starrer Ikkis.
Dharmendra leaves behind an unmatched legacy, countless memories, and millions of admirers. His warmth, humour, and heroic charm will always stay in the hearts of fans.
