“Makes Me Uncomfortable”: Rishab Shetty Breaks Silence On Ranveer Singh Kantara Mimicry Row

Rishab Shetty has finally reacted to the Ranveer Singh Kantara Daiva scene mimicry controversy, and his response was pretty calm, honest yet stern. While he didn’t name Ranveer directly, the timing and context made it clear what he was addressing.

What had initially started as a moment of admiration quickly turned into a full-blown conversation about respect, culture, and boundaries! At a Behindwoods event in Chennai, Rishab spoke about what he felt about people recreating sacred onscreen moments on public platforms. His words were firm, respectful but stern.

He said, “That makes me uncomfortable. While much of the film is cinema and performance, the Daiva element is sensitive and sacred. Wherever I go, I request people not to perform it on stage or mock it. It is emotionally deeply connected to us.”

For Rishab, Kantara isn’t just a film. It is rooted in living traditions, belief systems, and rituals that hold immense emotional and cultural value. He also highlighted how the Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 team has gone to great lengths to portray local practices authentically, so audiences truly understand their importance and meaning.

What Had Happened? Rishab Shetty-Ranveer Singh Kantara Controversy

So what had triggered the backlash? At the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 30, Ranveer Singh enthusiastically recalled watching Kantara in theatres.

In a viral video, he said, “I watched Kantara in theatres, and Rishab’s performance was outstanding, especially when the female ghost enters your body; that shot was so amazing.”

He then went on to imitate the Daiva scene on stage, which many online felt crossed a line. As criticism poured in, Ranveer responded with a heartfelt apology on Instagram.

He wrote, “My intention was to highlight Rishab’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it takes to perform that particular scene the way he did, for which he has my utmost admiration.” He added, “I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition, and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”

Ranveer made it clear that his intention was never to mock or offend, only to celebrate a performance that genuinely moved him as an actor and a fan. He is currently basking in the success of Dhurandhar.
