Rio Kapadia (of Chak De India fame) death: he died on Thursday afternoon (14 September 2023) at the age of 66.
The cause of his death – Rio succumbed to a prolonged battle with cancer. The late actor is survived by his wife Maria and daughter Farah.
The news of his death was confirmed by his friend Faisal Malik. He told PTI – “Dear friends, with great regret I wish to inform you guys that our dear friend Rio Kapadia passed away at 12:30 pm today.”

He was diagnosed with cancer last year. Kapadia’s funeral rites will be held at 11 a.m. in the presence of his close friends and family members at Shiv Dham Shamshan Bhumi in Goregaon on September 15, Friday.

Rio has starred in movies like Dil Chahta Hai, Chak De India , Mumbai Meri Jaan, Happy New Year, Khuda Haafiz, The Big Bull, and Agent Vinod. He was last seen in the hit show Made In Heaven 2, playing Mrunal Thakur’s father.
Rio played King Subala in the Star Plus series Mahabharat. He has also appeared in shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai, Savdhaan India and more. Kapadia has also starred in multiple ads as well.
The late actor had been quite active on Instagram until June 2023. Enjoying a beautiful holiday in Paris, Rio wrote, “Back again to the final leg of the European trip! Back to Paris. Had to see Paris in the eve from the Eiffel tower and have some last dinners in the beautiful city.”
