Prateik Smita Patil Reveals REAL REASON Why He Didn’t Invite Father Raj Babbar To His Wedding: “My Father’s Wife And My Mother Had Some Complications”!
Prateik Babbar recently opened up about his wedding with actress Priya Banerjee, which took place on February 14, 2025.
The couple tied the knot at the home of Prateik’s late mother, legendary actress Smita Patil. In a candid interview, Prateik explained why his father, veteran actor Raj Babbar, and his step-family were not invited to the intimate ceremony.

Prateik said the decision was made to protect the emotional sanctity of the home and to honor his mother’s memory.
“My father’s wife and my mother had some complications in the past, lots of things have been said in the press and stuff like that, if you dig out 38-40 years ago. I was open to doing something with my father and his family for another function.”
He shared that there have been long-standing tensions between his mother and stepmother Nadira Babbar. Because of these past complications, it did not feel right to invite Raj Babbar and his family into the home that represented Smita Patil’s life as a single mother.
“I just thought it was unethical to have him and his family at that house after everything that went on between them. Absolutely; it wasn’t right. The right thing to do was to what we did and then, if, obviously now circumstances are different, everything has gone south and it’s extremely complicated. But it’s not for me. I’m still the same.”
Prateik clarified that the choice wasn’t made out of anger or bitterness but out of respect.
“It wasn’t about rejecting anyone. It was about respecting my mother and her wishes… I’m sorry my father and his wife could not be there, could not be in the house my mother bought for me to grow up and live a life as a single mother in. She wanted to live in that house with me as a single mother. Bring me up. I’m sorry.”
He added that he and Priya believe they made the best decision for their wedding day.
“That was the best decision my wife and I made. And it could have been a very, very subtle scenario and everything could have been subtle. But people are impulsive, people make impulsive choices and say things out of impulse and it was just distasteful and I think that bitter taste has remained.”
Prateik also mentioned being open to having another function involving his father’s family in the future, though he admitted the situation remains complicated.
Prateik Babbar is the son of veteran actor Raj Babbar and late actress Smita Patil. Raj Babbar is married to Nadira Babbar and has two children with her, Arya Babbar and Juhi Babbar. Before marrying Priya Banerjee in 2025, Prateik was married to Sanya Sagar. They tied the knot in 2019 and separated in 2023.
