2020 has brought some sad news today….

Oscar winning music composer A.R Rahman’s mother Kareema Begum passed away today in Chennai.

As per reports, Rahman’s mother passed away due to ill health. The bereaved music maestro took to Twitter to share his loss with her photograph. Condolences immediately began to pour in from fans and his industry friends like Shreya Goshal and Shekhar Kapur.

After his father R. K. Shekhar passed away at the age of 9, A.R Rahman was raised by his mother. She was responsible for nudging him towards music by advising him to drop out.

“Spiritually she is much higher than me in the way she thinks and takes decisions. For instance, her decision of making me take up music. She made me leave school in Class XI and take up music and it was her conviction that music is the line for me.” Rahman had earlier revealed.

During the 81st Academy Awards ceremony, after winning the Oscar for “Slumdog Millionaire”, he had paid tribute to his mother.

“There is a Hindi dialogue, mere paas ma hai, which means ”I have nothing but I have a mother”. So my mother is here, her blessings are there with me. I”m grateful for her to have come all the way,” he had said.

May her soul rest in peace.
