EXCLUSIVE: “There Were Parts Of Me That I Couldn’t Accept” – Kajol On Insecurity

Kajol is known for her powerhouse performances, her bold laugh, and her no-filter attitude. Whether she is lighting up the screen or sharing her thoughts off-camera, she has always come across as strong and self-assured. But even someone like Kajol has faced moments of self-doubt.

EXCLUSIVE: “There Were Parts Of Me That I Couldn’t Accept” – Kajol On Insecurity

In an exclusive chat with Instant Bollywood, Kajol opened up about a lesser-known side of her life. She spoke about the time when she struggled to fully accept herself. While she has always appeared confident, she shared that there were parts of her inner self that took a long time to embrace.

When asked about insecurity and whether it ever got to her, Kajol was honest and thoughtful in her response.

“I’m normally a very confident person. I don’t let my insecurities change who I am, what I am, or what I believe about myself. But there were parts of me that I could not accept. Actually rather than saying I couldn’t accept, I’d say there were parts of me that I took a very long time to see – that yes, this is it. This is Kajol.”

“This Is The Kajol That People Outside See? I Couldn’t See That Version In The Mirror” – Says Kajol

She added that this disconnect came from how different the outside world saw her compared to how she saw herself.

“This is the Kajol that people outside see. I couldn’t see that version in the mirror. It took me that long to realize that what people see on the outside, that’s also me. Because what I saw was very different from someone else’s perspective. It takes a bit of time to accept that.”

Was this insecurity triggered by something someone said? Was it because of how the media portrayed her? Kajol doesn’t think so.

“No, I think it’s something that everybody goes through. You have to grow into it. What you see yourself as will always be, first and foremost, what you see in the mirror. That will always be your first perspective of yourself. You will never see yourself the way your mother sees you.”

It took her a long time to reconcile how she saw herself with how others saw her. She explained that everyone goes through this. For celebrities too, it’s either seeing only their own flaws or only the image others project onto them. Real confidence comes from learning to merge both views into one true, whole identity.

“And the same goes for a celebrity. Even a celebrity will never see themselves the way others do. Either that, or they will only see themselves the way others do. It’s one or the other. It takes a very long time to integrate both those things, put it together, and become one person, one identity.”
