In a candid chat with Instant Bollywood, she opened up about her early days in the film world. It’s the kind of story every dreamer should hear.

“It was very difficult. There was no word of mouth at all. I had to audition every single time.”

When Nimrat moved to Mumbai in 2004, all she had was a small portfolio of 5 to 6 pictures with her name, height, and number stuck on the back. She went door to door, office to office, handing them out and hoping to get a break. But what followed was a string of rejections.

“I went through something like 80 to 85 auditions and rejections. I even kept a diary and marked a cross when it didn’t work out.”

Her first job came only after 85 to 90 auditions. And yes, the comments hurt.

“You don’t look good enough. You’re not tall enough. You’re not fair enough.” All those ‘not enoughs’. Your nose is too long.”

These remarks chipped away at her confidence.

“Many times, it hurt me. I used to feel like maybe I’m not good enough. Maybe I’m not worthy of it.”

Yet, she kept going. Calling her mom from PCOs, crying in private, but never letting herself give up. What kept her going? A quiet belief in herself.

“I knew I had a certain presence. There was an internal voice.”

“Everytime I Felt Like Didn’t Have The Strength To Step, Something Nice Would Happen” – Nimrat Kaur

Every time she came close to giving up, something positive happened – a compliment, a small gig, a kind word. It was just enough to pull her back.

“Every time I reached a point where I felt like I didn’t have the strength to step out of the house, where I just wanted to stay in bed, something would happen. Someone would say something nice and inspiring. That one positive thing would be enough to not let me break.”
