Deepika Padukone has finally spoken up about the recent buzz around her ‘8-hour work shift’ demand, and her response is as sharp as it is real.

She pointed out the double standards in Bollywood, saying, “By virtue of being a woman, if that’s coming across as pushy or whatever, then so be it. But it is no secret that a lot of superstars, male superstars, in the Indian Film Industry, have been working for 8 hours for years and it’s never made headlines!”

Deepika added that this isn’t some secret within the industry. Many male actors, according to her, stick to an 8-hour workday, Monday to Friday, and don’t even shoot on weekends. Yet when she asked for the same, it suddenly became national news.
She also highlighted the bigger issue, saying that Bollywood has never really functioned like an industry even though it is called one. Long hours, poor work conditions, and even basics like food on set often get overlooked.
On whether she feels like she’s fighting this battle alone, Deepika explained that she’s been dealing with similar struggles throughout her career.
“Even when it comes to pay, I’ve had to deal with it. I fight my battles silently. For some strange reason, sometimes they become public—which is not the way I know and not the way I’ve been brought up. To fight my battles silently and in a dignified way is the way I know,” she said.
Deepika Padukone Out From Kalki 2:
This comes after months of speculation about Deepika being dropped from Kalki 2. Producers finally confirmed her exit. Reports claimed the actress asked for a ₹25 crore hike in fees, a 7-hour daily shift, and 5-star stays for her 25-member crew. The makers apparently felt the demands were too much to accommodate.
At the end of the day, Deepika’s message is clear… if male stars can set boundaries without judgment, women should be able to do the same without being turned into a headline.
Deepika may not be part of Spirit or the Kalki 2898 AD sequel, but she has exciting projects ahead, including Atlee’s next film with Allu Arjun and King alongside Shah Rukh Khan.
