The trailer of Haq is out, and it’s already creating quite a stir. The film tells a bold and emotional story inspired by one of India’s most talked-about court cases: the 1985 Shah Bano case. Directed by Suparn S Varma, Haq brings this real-life struggle for women’s rights and justice to the big screen with a powerful touch.

Haq Trailer:

The trailer opens with Shazia Bano (played by Yami Gautam) talking about her fight for dignity and justice. At first, her life with her husband Abbas (Emraan Hashmi) seems happy and peaceful. But things take a painful turn when Abbas decides to marry a younger woman and divorces Shazia through triple talaq. Despite being given a small pre-decided amount of mehr as part of the divorce, Shazia refuses to stay silent. She decides to challenge the system and demands maintenance for herself and her three children.

What follows is a gripping journey of courage. Shazia faces backlash from her community and constant pressure to drop the case. Still, she refuses to give up, insisting that as an Indian Muslim woman, she deserves equal rights and justice. Yami brings immense strength and vulnerability to the role, while Emraan perfectly captures the intensity of Abbas.

Haq Release Date:

Haq promises to be a thought-provoking film that mixes emotion, law, and humanity. It releases in cinemas on November 7.

Shah Bano Case:

For those unfamiliar with the real case, the Shah Bano judgment was a turning point in India’s legal history. The Supreme Court ruled that Shah Bano, a 62-year-old divorced Muslim woman, had the right to maintenance under Indian law even after the iddat period, sparking nationwide debates on religion and women’s rights.
