Dhurandhar’s got everyone talking, theorising and going “wait, who is this based on!”. Ranveer Singh’s latest monster of a blockbuster, directed by Aditya Dhar, has taken the box office by storm.

Ranveer Singh as Hamza or Jaskirat Singh Rangi (Inspired by multiple Para SF and RAW operatives)
Ranveer’s role confused the entire internet at first. Everyone thought the character was based on Ashoka Chakra awardee Major Mohit Sharma, the Para SF officer who lost his life in a 2009 Kashmir operation. But Aditya Dhar personally cleared it up. Ranveer’s character is not Major Sharma. It is actually a composite created from different real Para SF and RAW heroes.

And then came the big twist. In the Dhurandhar climax, we discover that Hamza is actually Jaskirat Singh Rangi, a convict on a redemption arc. Fans immediately connected the name to Uri, where Kirti Kulhari’s character mentions her late husband with the same name. Most likely it is just a cheeky nod. The real backstory of Jaskirat is coming in Dhurandhar 2, releasing on 19 March 2026, so we will have our answers soon.
Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait (Based on Karachi’s feared gangster)
Akshaye Khanna is having a moment. His portrayal of Rehman Dakait is fierce. The character is inspired by the real gangster from Karachi’s Lyari neighbourhood. The real Rehman Dakait was known for his ruthlessness and was eventually killed in a police encounter. Akshaye nails the vibe perfectly.

Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal, ISI (Inspired by Ilyas Kashmiri)
Arjun Rampal goes full ice cold in this role. His character, Major Iqbal from the ISI, is modelled after Ilyas Kashmiri, a Pakistani ex Special Forces operative turned militant leader. Kashmiri was infamous, powerful and often described as the new Osama bin Laden. That dangerous menace you see in Arjun’s eyes is very much inspired by this real figure.

Sanjay Dutt as Chaudhary Aslam (Based on Pakistan’s encounter specialist)
Sanjay Dutt brings serious swagger to the role of Pakistani cop Chaudhary Aslam. The real Aslam was a feared encounter specialist who took down some of Karachi’s most dangerous criminals. He was also popularly known as Lyari’s Robin Hood.
R Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal (Inspired by Ajit Doval)
Madhavan plays Ajay Sanyal, the Director of Intelligence Bureau, and his character clearly takes inspiration from Ajit Doval. Doval is India’s longest serving National Security Advisor and one of the most respected spymasters in the country.
