As reported by the media, during a chit-chat with author and critic Saif Mahmood for Link Legal’s ‘Beyond Law’, Naseeruddin Shah took a trip down memory lane and shared his memories with the late Dilip Ji.

The actor recalled an incident from his early days as an actor in then-Bombay, when a young Shah told Dilip Ji that he wanted to be an actor, he advised him against it. “I think you should go back and study. People from good families should not try to become actors,” the ‘Main Hoon Na’ actor was told.

“I didn’t ask him how he’d become an actor in that case”, Shah added. On being asked whether he ever bought it up with Dilip Kumar later, he replied, “I didn’t have the courage, I was too awed by him, like every other actor in India. He was above all”.

Interestingly, the duo ended up sharing the screen space together in Subhash Ghai’s movie ‘Karma’ (1986).

“That’s the only time I think I have been nervous while acting in my life. Most of the time, I was too terrified to even approach him, apart from greeting him in the mornings,” he stated.
