Kabir Khan‘s upcoming directorial, ’83’, chronicles India’s historic win at the 1983 World Cup final against West Indies at Lord’s.
Starring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, the biographical sports drama is set to hit theatres on December 24, 2021.
Deepika Padukone, along with co-producing the film, also plays the role of Kapil’s wife Romi Bhatia in ’83’. The movie also stars Saqib Saleem, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Pankaj Tripathi, Jatin Sarna, Jiiva and Sahil Khattar.
Now, ahead of the much-awaited release of 2021, we hear that the makers have allegedly shelled out a whopping amount of Rs 15 CRORES to the original winning team, whereas Kapil Dev, who led the team to victory, was apparently paid Rs 5 CRORES for his go-ahead.
An insider informed the media portal, “Before making the film it is important to acquire the rights of the subject and the individual stories of the players the film is based on, especially when it revolves around real-life people of incidents. Keeping this in mind, Reliance Entertainment has paid the original winning team of the 1983 World Cup approximately Rs. 15 cr., while Kapil Dev, who led the team to victory walked away with the lion’s share of around Rs. 5 cr. for his go-ahead.”
Recently, a UAE-based finance company named Future Resource FZE had supposedly filed a complaint against Deepika, Sajid Nadiadwala, Kabir Khan and other producers of ’83’ for alleged cheating.
Meanwhile last week, the trailer of ’83’ was screened at Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.
