Reportedly, Navjot and Rupinder had been parked in a Gypsy – right in the middle of a road near Sheranwala Gate Crossing in Patiala. When Gurnam Singh asked them to move the car, it turned into a heated argument.

It was claimed that Sidhu beat up Singh and fled the scene. Singh was declared dead on arriving at the hospital.

However, Navjot’s affidavit read that there was no conclusive evidence to show that the single fist blow led to the death”!

While the Punjab and Haryana High Court had charged Sidhu with culpable homicide and given him a 3-year jail term, in 2018 Supreme Court set aside that verdict. Instead, charged him under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and only imposed a fine of Rs 1,000.

Gurnam Singh’s family again re-opened the case and now Supreme Court has revised their verdict and sentenced Sidhu to 1-year jail, plus Rs 1000 fine.
