On Friday, a special court is expected to announce its order on the bail pleas of Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik and 3 others accused. Rhea had claimed she was falsely implicated and coerced into confessions, which she later formally retracted.
Special judge GB Gurao heard the submissions made by Chakraborty’s lawyer Maneshinde and the special public prosecutor on Thursday. NCB also strongly opposed Rhea’s bail plea.
As per TOI report, NCB claimed that Rhea was clearly involved in financing activities related to illicit trafficking of drugs. They said it was supported by voluntary statements given by her and others accused, as well as WhatsApp chat records, call detail records and info recovered from laptops and tablets.
“The applicant (Rhea) was having conscious knowledge about drug consumption by Sushant Singh Rajput and she made herself part of this offence by procuring drugs. She has used her credit card and payment getaways to facilitate the financial transactions related to dealing of illicit drug trafficking,” the NCB said before a special NDPS court on Thursday.
The Special Public Prosecutor Atul Sarpande also refuted Rhea’s claims that she was coerced into making self-incriminatory confessions, which she later withdrew. “The confession was taken legally and is admissible. Retraction is routine process based on legal advice,” the prosecution said.
Prosecution also stated similar grounds to oppose Showik Chakraborty’s bail plea as well.
The prosecution said that, Rhea had confessed in a voluntary statement, that she was staying with Sushant since April 2019 and was procuring drugs for him through Showik and his associates Basit Parihar, Kaizan Ebrahim and Zaid Vilatra.
The prosecution went on to add that “financing illicit traffic and harbouring offenders” was a non-bailable offence under Section 27A of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Sarpande also said that contrary to claims, in Rhea’s bail plea, women officers were present during her interrogation.
Rhea is currently under judicial custody till September 22. Her brother Showik and others accused have been sent to judicial custody till September 23.
