Many Bollywood celebs like Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Karan Johar have stepped in to show their support to #BlackLivesMatter, an anti-racism campaign that’s making waves world-wide, protesting against police brutality which led to the death of George Floyd.
However, Controversy Queen Kangana Ranaut who’s known for her seedhi baat no bakwaas attitude, can be heard criticizing Bollywood for being vocal about atrocities committed in the West while conveniently turning a blind eye on crimes in their own country!
In an interview with Pinkvilla Kangana stated, “The Sadhu lynching happened a couple of weeks ago; still no one said a word. It happened in Maharashtra where most of these celebrities reside…Bollywood anyway is a derived name from Hollywood.”
She claims Bollywood celebs never fail to jump on the bandwagon, which can give them two minutes of fame, but ‘white people’ must drive the bandwagon!
“Perhaps, it is because of their pre-independence colonial slavery genes.” She states.
Talking further about this selective activism, she notes that Bollywood celebs are vocal about their support for the white teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg for environmental issues while overlooking the acknowledgement of the exceptional work of many Indians, some who were even honoured with the Padma Shri award!
“Perhaps, sadhus or tribal people aren’t fancy enough for the Bollywood crowd or their followers.” Kangana Ranaut says.
Earlier, our fiery Kangana was also outraged at her fellow industry members for being suspiciously silent about the protests against CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act). ‘Sissies’, ‘Cowards’ and ‘Spineless’ – is what she called them!
