Bollywood’s Sudden Outpouring of Love for Sushant is the ‘ultimate hypocrisy’ – Saif Ali Khan

The tragic death of Sushant Singh Rajput left the film fraternity reeling in shock and many Bollywood celebs took to social media to offer their condolences and heartfelt tributes in his honour. However, this ‘outpouring of love’ from Bollywood seems shallow to Saif Ali Khan

In an interview with the Times of India, Saif opened up on the issue, saying, “Silence would have been more appropriate than the hypocrisy of pretending to care!”

Furious that people were leveraging Sushant’s death on social media to further their own agenda, he commented, “ People are somewhere gaining some mileage from this poor fellow’s tragedy, whether it’s to show compassion or to show interest or to show some political stance.”

Talking about how cutthroat The Tinsel Town is, filled with people who don’t really care, Saif found Bollywood’s sudden empathy hard to digest. “Maybe a day of silence or introspection would be a little more becoming than this outpouring of love from ‘people who obviously didn’t care about him’ and ‘people who famously don’t care about anybody else’.”

He strongly felt the pretence of caring was an insult to Sushant’s soul. “Yes! We don’t care about anybody. You know, it’s a very cutthroat line of work. But to pretend that you do care is like the ultimate hypocrisy and I think that’s an insult to the dead!”

Addressing the rumours of how nepotism might have played a hand in Sushant’s demise and how Bollywood Bigwigs failed him, Saif disagreed – “People are failing people constantly. Everyone talking about him, even those saying who failed you or didn’t fail you is somewhat exploiting his name. To take any stand at the moment, apart from just sorrow, and just saying that I’m really sad that he had no way out except this – any other comment is somewhere manipulating the situation, I feel.”

He further added that all of us are merely speculating things as of now and the real reason is unknown. “We will all assume that this terrible thing happened to him because of his films. There is more to life. Maybe he was upset about other things in his life. Maybe it was a personal reason. Maybe it’s nothing to do with films!”

Saif Ali Khan’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan had also shared a condolence post on Sushant’s passing away.
