CBI, ED, NCB are investigating the SSR Case. Amidst this, Rhea Chakraborty’s interviews where she broke her silence and shared her side of the story have gone viral.
In India Today and NDTV interviews, she has spilled the beans on all – with shocking claims that SSR had a strained relationship with family, his Mom also had depression, he used to smoke weed and more.
Strained Relationship with Father
Rhea claimed that Sushant was not close to his father.
“Sushant wasn’t close to his father. His father left his mother at a young age, and as a kid that affected him. Before I met him, Sushant hadn’t spoken to his father for 5 years. His relations with his father were always strained”
SSR Mom Depression
Rhea also claimed that Sushant’s Mom was also suffering from depression before her death. Sushant was very attached to his mother and was very emotional about her.
“Sushant ke depression ka ek bada reason hai ki he wasn’t able to live without his mother. She also struggled with mental illness,” said Rhea.
When asked if she involved family in SSR’s illness, “Yes. I was very happy when he was leaving with them for Chandigarh. His sister told me that she knew how to handle things because their mother also suffered from something similar, and I was happy that he was in good hands. I gave her the prescription and the medicines, and hoped that things would get better.”
Isolating from family?
Addressing the allegation of her isolationg Sushant from his family – “I was not isolating Sushant from his family. He went to Chandigarh to meet his sister’s family. They also met him in Bandra and sat smiling in a cafe. Why did his brother-in-law message a cop asking him “whack” me? Why did you let him come back from Chandigarh if you think I was isolating him?”
Family Knew About Depression
In an NDTV report, contrary to allegations that Rhea didn’t tell SSR’s family about his illness, she has now said that – “ I had told Sushant’s family about his depression and yet they left him.”
“He was in touch with family all through the Euro trip. He got in touch with his father from Italy and Vienna. I had told them in November about medications and doctors. But they left in the middle of the night. We had a troubled relation when his sister tried to grope me in the middle of the night. I wanted him to be with his family because it was a big issue.”
“His sister Shweta had put up a post about mental health and her mother was suffering from it. She took it down the day the Bihar FIR was filed.”

SSR Smoked Weed
Rhea said it was unfortunate that one’s vices were being exploited after death, but his family had left her no choice. She said Sushant used to smoke marijuana and drink regularly and she tried to control that.
“Pandora’s box been opened by his family. I wanted his memory to be pristine. Sushant used to smoke marijuana. I tried to control him to stop.”
She further said that he used to do it since before he met her. Even during the time of ‘Kedarnath’, he used to smoke but she said that she tried to stop him. She said that he would do what he liked.
Shifting to Coorg
Rhea revealed that Sushant wanted to shift to Coorg.
“By mid-May, Sushant was preparing to shift to Coorg and he was talking to his lawyer about it. He previously wanted to shift to Bir. He was not a big fan of the city life. Contrary to allegations, I was very supportive because long-distance relationship works too.”
Rhea also claimed that Sushant would keep calling his family and had also asked them to help him out with his plans to move to Coorg but they didn’t respond and would stay aloof.
June 8-June 14
Rhea revealed that SSR messaged her on June 9, asking, “How are you my bebu?”
“Honestly, even in January 2020, he had asked me to leave. His explanation was he was moving to Pawna. Then he asked me to come back and I did. He was planning to move to Coorg. This time as well I thought he will call me back. He messaged but did not ask me to come back. I was upset. So I blocked him. I was completely broken. He texted my brother but there was no message of wanting me back. It was rare. He would always want me back. Then his sister was there with him. I thought they will be comfortable without me. I felt maybe he did not want me.”
“I was hurt because I thought he didn’t want me in his life, even though he knew I was unwell, he didn’t reach out on the 8th. I blocked him on the 9th. My parents did not know about it, but he was in touch with my brother. He is still on my family group. I would have gone back to him if he had reached out or if I knew this was to happen.”
Rhea has also questioned his sister as to why she won’t say what happened between June 8-June 14. “But I have no idea what happened. I want to know what happened. Between June 8 and 14, I was neither at the house nor communicating with him. His sister and others were there. Why doesn’t his sister come forward and say what happened?” she asked.
Witch Hunt Mentality
Rhea also talked about the witch hunt mentality and media trial going on against her.
“I don’t seem to understand why I am at the centre of this. Maybe because of the witch-hunt mentality, because the family has made these allegations. Never thought the world could be so sick.”
Satish Maneshinde Statement
Meanwhile, reacting to reports that Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde is fighting her case without any charge, he said –
“What Rhea said in her interview was only that I didn’t raise bills in her case and whatever people are saying that I approached her for this case and offered my services for free is not true. Fees is a matter between me and my client”
Rhea Summoned by CBI
On Friday, Rhea has been summoned by the CBI for questioning and reached the DRDO guesthouse.
