Urmila Reacts to ‘Soft Porn Star’ Comment; Addresses Using ‘Rudali’ for Kangana

Yesterday, Kangana Ranaut faced the wrath of netizens for calling Urmila Matondkar a ‘soft porn star’, while celebrities came forward to support the latter.

Kangana then questioned – “Where was your feminism when Urmila called me Rudali?” Urmila has now responded to these remarks!

Urmila Reacts to Soft Porn Star Comment; Addresses Using Rudali for Kangana

While talking to journalist Barkha Dutt, Urmila said she doesn’t think anything was left to be said by her, pointing out how the female anchor had been relishing the comments that Kangana had made.

“I think you and I should bow out and give way to the new feminism that has come up in the country,” Urmila said sarcastically.

Reacting to the claim that Urmila was attacking Kangana on the basis of the fact that she is trying to please BJP for a ticket, the actress clarified – “If anyone tells me where and which interview in what language I have said this, on or off-camera, I would just change my name, would do anything that was asked for.”

“”Will all who opposed Shiv Sena’s slurs for Kangana condemn this too”- questions Urmila

Furthermore, referencing to the slur used against Kangana by a Shiv Sena leader recently, Urmila questioned whether all those who condemned that, would oppose the ‘soft porn star’ remark too.

“Today, as I am spoken about like this by another woman, which level should that be going to? It really fails me,” she said.

Urmila also pointed out that in all of her interviews, she had complimented Kangana for the actor that she is and acknowledged all her achievements.

She continued, “It just goes to show where we stand, and that is precisely what I have been trying to say, that if you have a viewpoint, by all means you have a right to express it. But it just that the way you express it and how you express it does matter.”

Urmila said that she was ‘deeply touched’ by the kind of response that ‘the people of this country’ gave her. “They are aghast and completely in shock as to what has happened.”

Urmila also addressed the ‘Rudali’ remark, saying there was a context to her comment but she had no problem apologising for it if Kangana and fans felt offended.

“I said rudali in a certain context, and if at all it was offensive, I have absolutely no qualms in saying I am sorry about it. Maybe not her, maybe the people who support her so dearly. So I am sorry if anything like that has gone out of context. It doesn’t make me small,” she said.

She further went on to add that she didn’t regret using the word.

“It was used by me in a context. I have not understood why a person constantly chooses to only play a victim card. You and I can also do that,” she said.

“When you have had such a long and lovely career in the industry, which has given you so much, are you trying to say that there was nothing good about it? There was not a single person, day, anything that happened good?” Urmila added.
