Sonu Sood Conferred With Special Humanitarian Action Award

For all the help Sonu Sood offered the migrants during the pandemic to reach them back to their homes, he is known to be the messiah of those in need.

Rewarding the actor’s philanthropic efforts, the Department of Planning of the Government of Punjab conferred him with the SDG Special Humanitarian Action Award.

The award was presented to the actor this Monday via a virtual ceremony. Sonu, on receiving the award says, “This is a rare honour. UN recognition is very special. I have done whatever little I have done, in my own humble way, for my fellow countrymen without any expectations. However, to be recognised and awarded feels good.”

He also talks about supporting the UNDP. I fully support the UNDP in its endeavours to achieve the SDGs by 2030. Planet Earth and mankind will greatly benefit from the implementation of these goals.”

However, despite the good news, there had been confusion going around the internet on who exactly gave the actor the award, the UNDP or the Government of Punjab? Putting everyone at ease, the UNDP released an official statement saying it wasn’t them but the Department of Planning of the Government of Punjab who conferred Sood with the award.

Sonu Sood has helped lakhs of migrants who had unfortunately been stranded across various places in the country and were unable to head back home during the lockdown. Sood also took the initiative to make lives better this lockdown by providing free education, free employment for the unemployed and free medical facilities to children. He also allowed the stay of medical professionals in his Mumbai hotel and had arranged safe shelters for several people in the city before the Nisarga cyclone hit the Maharashtra coast this July.
