Recently in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, veteran actress Shabana Azmi commented on the ongoing issues in the film industry.
Shabana Azmi also reacted to Kangana Ranaut, saying that she makes ‘outrageous statements to stay in the news’.
Azmi also advised Ranaut to focus on what she’s best at – acting.
“Kangana has started believing in her own myth. She says she taught feminism to the film industry, she taught it nationalism. I’m glad she spelled that out because nobody else had noticed! I think she fears the day when she will no longer be in the headlines and so has to keep making outrageous statements to stay in the news. Poor girl, why doesn’t she just do what she is best at, which is acting,” said Shabana.
Addressing the various allegations being hurled at Bollywood, Shabana shared her thoughts – “My primary identity is that of being a Hindi film industry actor and I am very proud of it. Unfortunately, the Hindi film industry is a sitting duck; it is easy to hurl malevolent accusations. It is a systematic campaign to divert attention from real issues, failing economy, China border tensions, spiraling Covid cases, and farmers’ agitation by putting the spotlight on the supposed ills of the film industry.”
She questioned – “How can you paint the whole lot with one brush? There are miscreant elements in all professions.”
She also commented on the Sushant Singh Rajput case saying, “AIIMS Report clearly states it was not murder. So ‘Justice for Sushant’ has given way to ‘Weed out the Druggies’ the goal post keeps changing. Instead of focusing on mental health as a serious issue in our society, it’s sensationalism at play.”
In the past, Kangana had called Shabana Azmi an ‘anti-national’. Kangana’s sister and manager Rangoli Chandel also accused Azmi’s husband Javed Akhtar of calling Kangana home and ‘intimidating’ and ‘threatening’ her to apologise to Hrithik Roshan.
Meanwhile, Kangana’s sister Rangoli took to Instagram to retaliate against the veteran actresses’s remarks.
She posted a screenshot on her Insta stories that said, “Here comes the suicide gang! Dear Shabana ji I have a few questions for you and your husband. Why don’t you both also stick to your respective acting and poetry? Why do you guys actively participate in anti-India politics? To remain in headlines? Or you feel for certain issues? If you anti-India agendas are genuine then why can’t her pro-India agendas be genuine as well? Why different rules for her and different for you?”
