Fun Fact: Did You Know ‘Jab We Met’ Was The Brainchild Of THESE 2 PROMPTS?

The Shahid Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer ‘Jab We Met’ is one of those films that can be binged multiple times without getting bored!

Did you know that this quirky, slice-of-life comedy has an equally interesting origin story? In a throwback interview, director Imtiaz Ali had revealed the same:

While talking to The Quint, Imtiaz opened up on the process of coming up with the story of ‘Jab We Met’. The movie was actually the brainchild of a writing exercise that the director had indulged in with his friend.

How It All Started?

A friend of Imtiaz Ali had approached him asking for work. Imtiaz instructed him to write a story and that they would take it forward from there. So, as an exercise, both of them sat down together to find the story.

The friend came up with the prompt – “A man who wants to kill himself” while Imtiaz suggested “a girl in the train”. Then they tried to combine these two prompts and brainstorm around the whole idea.

Though nothing materialised immediately, the idea stayed in Imtiaz’s mind and later on took the shape of ‘Jab We Met’!

Now, Kareena as the bubbly ‘Geet Dhillon’ has become a pop culture icon! But apparently, she was not the first choice for the movie. The female lead in ‘Jab We Met’ was initially offered to Preity Zinta and Bobby Deol was to play Aditya Kashyap

But as it turned out… whatever happens, happens for the best!
