After gathering dust for 13 years, his passion project ‘Heera Mandi’ will finally see the light of the day as a Netflix project!
Though it was initially billed as a film, the format of Heera Mandi has now been transformed into a web series instead, as reported by Pinkvilla. This SLB project will be a big-scale costume drama revolving around prostitutes in the red light area in the Walled City of Lahore!
The Netflix web series will be set amidst the late 1800s to mid-1950s, and the 1st season has been split into 8 episodes reportedly. SLB has a stellar cast locked in for the project – Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Nimrat Kaur, Sayani Gupta and Manisha Koirala – all have pivotal roles.
“Sonakshi is in initial talks for Heera Mandi and has verbally agreed to be a part of the show. However, she is yet to sign on the dotted line. It’s a very powerful role with some shades of grey,” a source told Pinkvilla.
Meanwhile, apart from Heera Mandi, Huma Qureshi will also be making a special appearance for a song in another one of Bhansali’s projects – Gangubai Kathiawadi.
The web series is expected to go on floors in the first week of April; with Bhansali directing the first two and the last episode, while Vibhu Puri will be helming the rest.
