After Kalank failed to make a mark at the box office, Takht was touted to be Karan Johar’s most ambitious period drama project.
It boasted a star-studded ensemble cast of Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Kareena Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar.
Set in the Mughal era, Takht was about two warring Mughal princes, Aurangzeb (Vicky) and Dara Shikoh (Ranveer). Anil Kapoor was to play Shah Jahan, Kareena Kapoor to be seen as Jahanara Begum and Alia Bhatt as Dilras Banu.
This magnum opus was to go on floors in 2020 but Covid-19 played spoilsport. However, now even though filming of other projects has commenced, reports are doing rounds that Takht has been PERMANENTLY SHELVED!
A source told Bollywood Life, “Karan Johar’s ambitious project Takht has been shelved permanently. It was put on hold due to COVID-19 earlier. However, the team developing it have been having a hard time sort their creative differences and be on the same page.”
After Gully Boy, fans have been dying to see Ranveer-Alia paired up again. Even if Takht is now a missed opportunity, do not be disappointed! We hear that Karan Johar has another rom-com up his sleeve with Ranveer-Alia as the leads.
