The Alia Bhatt starrer has been facing issues since day one.

Alia Bhatt’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is in trouble again?

Based on one of the chapters of noted author Hussain Zaidi‘s book “Mafia Queens of Mumbai”, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ stars Alia Bhatt as ‘Gangubai’, one of the most powerful, loved, and respected madams from Kamathipura, Mumbai’s red-light area, during the 1960s.

Now, as per the latest Peeping Moon report, Maharashtra Congress MLA Amin Patel on Monday has demanded a change in the movie title.

Curious to know why? Well, Amin Patel, who represents the Mumbadevi constituency in south Mumbai, has reportedly claimed that the movie title “maligns the name of Kathiawad city”.

While speaking in the state assemble, Patel also supposedly stated that the Kamathipura area has undergone changes.

“It is not the same like it was in 1950s. Women there are excelling in different professions. The film’s title also maligns the name of Kathiawad city. The name of the film should be changed,” the Congress MLA said.

Meanwhile, a few days earlier, according to a Spotboye report, residents of Kamathipura raised objections against how the region has been portrayed as a red light area in Mumbai in the trailer of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’.

Apparently, a statement was also released in media, which read, “The New Alia Bhatt Starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is a blatant misrepresentation and an attempt to malign the 200 years of the actual history of Kamathipura.”

“It is defamatory, shameful, and has hurt the sentiments of the residents of Kamathipura. The residents have worked hard to erase the social stigma attached to the name of Kamathipura, and this movie is extremely damaging to the current and future generations of Kamathipura,” the statement further added.

Nonetheless, the movie will be releasing in theatres on July 30.
