Storyline

Chirag “Charlie” Rastogi (Aadar Jain) is a Mumbai newbie and he’s all set out to earn a few bucks, after failed previous tries, to pay off his late father’s loans. His job profile is to make sure a gorilla who goes by the name Toto, is transported safely to a circus.

This being one side of the story, the other is about a criminal billionaire MD Makwana (Jackie Shroff) who is desperate to get out of the country after his frauds come under the radar. Makwana’s girlfriend, a model named Mona (Elnaaz Norouzi), gives him what seems to be a splendid idea. She asks him to disguise himself as a gorilla and take Toto’s place while Charlie transports him, unknowingly of course.

While the two of them succeed in the plan halfway, Toto (the real gorilla) goes missing and the search then begins. Post that scene, all hell breaks loose as it gets everyone confused as to who the real gorilla is.

What do we think?

Aadar Jain’s comeback into films after a long gap should’ve called for a better movie choice. We know it’s supposed to be a slapstick dramedy but how much can one really exaggerate? Comedy classics like Here Pheri, Golmaal, No Problem and more too have the element of exaggeration but the humour is what is considered to be the surviving point in such films which is absent in this case. The graph keeps shifting from hilarious to cringy and we only wish for things to be different.

Jackie Shroff has given cinema incredible hits but we don’t think this comes under it. We feel sorry to say it but Saraswat’s Hello Charlie is one such film that just might have worked years ago but sadly not now.

Hit or Miss?
