While the much-in-love couple has been married for more than a decade now, did you know they have been together since their 12th grade? On this special occasion, let’s take a trip down memory lane and revisit their old-school romance…
The Teenage Crush At A Tuition Centre:
Ayushmann & Tahira had met each other at a Physics tuition class when they were still in the 12th standard. Earlier, while talking to India Today, Tahira had revealed that she, along with her friend, had a crush on him. On the other hand, Ayushmann was also crushing hard on Tahira but was too shy to express his feelings.
In one of his interviews, Ayushmann said:
“There were so many good-looking guys in the class! I was nowhere close to them. So, when someone told me that Tahira had a crush on me, I was on cloud nine. The girl, who every guy had a crush on, had a crush on me! It seemed impossible but I was damn happy.”
Romantic Proposal:
Ayushmann had proposed to Tahira in the most romantic way possible just a year before they tied the knot. Gushing about the proposal Tahira once said in an interview:
“Ayushmann formally proposed to me just last year when we got married in November 2011. He did it like a gentleman with a ring, music playing in the background, red roses, wine, and a romantic candlelight dinner.“
The Wedding:
After dating each other for several years, the childhood sweethearts got married on November 1, 2011. Now, they are proud parents to two kids- Virajveer (son) & Varushka (daughter).
Did you know Tahira married Ayushmann when he was still a struggling actor? Talking about it, Ayushmann once said:
“When I got married, I had no money. Tahira has been doing better than me professionally for the longest time. She was gutsy enough to marry a man just for love and have faith in his talent. She is a rockstar; she was a professor, had her own PR firm in Chandigarh. She was also the programming head of a radio station in Punjab. She supported me in every possible way. I was a struggling actor, which is often a gamble. But there was never any ego between us.”
Through Ups & Downs:
From the long-distance relationship post-marriage to Tahira being insecure about Ayushmann’s onscreen kissing scenes– the couple had to go through their own share of hurdles in their marriage. Tahira once told in an interview:
“I had a problem with him kissing on screen. I felt like a big, huge fat whale sitting at home. When you are pregnant your hormones also go up and down. Here this boy is looking at his youngest youth best and he is romancing women and what is this onscreen kiss! We both were very young. There was this disconnect that we were not there for each other to take each other along in that journey.”
The Cancer Phase:
In 2018, Tahira was diagnosed with Stage 0 cancer. She underwent a mastectomy procedure but it returned and Stage 1 breast cancer was detected.
The actor once revealed that he used to promote his films ‘Andhadhun’ & ‘Badhaai Ho’ in the morning and visit the hospital at night. He added that he was sleepless for seven days and seven nights. It was a tough time but he said that Tahira was positive and she inspired him a lot.
Tahira has fought the disease like a champ and now spreads awareness about breast cancer.
