Recently, things got heated on Twitter between badminton champion Saina Nehwal and Tamil actor Siddharth.
Saina had tweeted about her concerns regarding PM Narendra Modi’s security breach in Punjab, when Siddharth took a dig at her.
Saina had tweeted – “No nation can claim itself to be safe if the security of its own PM gets compromised. I condemn, in the strongest words possible, the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists.”
In reply Siddharth wrote – “Subtle cock champion of the world… Thank God we have protectors of India. Shame on you #Rihanna.”
Netizens took outrage at the tweet assuming he was passing a sexist comment. His ‘Rihanna’ remark refers to when the pop star had given her support to the farmers protesting against the farm laws.
Siddharth Explains Tweet Wasn’t Disrespectful
Siddharth later clarified his ‘subtle cock’ reference – that he was using the phrase ‘cock and bull story’ and he didn’t intend it to mean anything crass or disrespectful.
(Cock and Bull Story means – a story that is not true, especially one given as an explanation or excuse)
Saina reacted to the controversy saying – “Yeah, I’m not sure what he meant. I used to like him as an actor but this was not nice. He can express himself with better words but I guess it’s Twitter and you remain noticed with such words and comments.”
