Imtiaz Ali’s next movie is on Amar Singh Chamkila.
The late singer was called as ‘Elvis Of Punjab’. Amar Singh and his wife Amarjot were mysteriously assassinated on 8 March 1988.
It was not known who had murdered them – Khalistanis or a professional rival?
Imtiaz is making a biopic on the Punjabi singer and Ranbir Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Kartik Aaryan‘s names were doing rounds for the titular role.
However, as per Peeping Moon’s latest report, it appears that it is Diljit Dosanjh who’s come on board to play Amar Singh Chamkila onscreen.
“Imtiaz wanted an actor who’s also a singer to step into the shoes of the legendary Punjabi singer and Diljit perfectly fits the bill. Furthermore, Chamkila is one of the singers Diljit has always been inspired by and the film would give him a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play him on-screen, hence he immediately came on board. Diljit would also be seen singing some of Chamkila’s original songs in this as-yet-untitled film,” a source told the portal.

Diljit will also be seen in Ali Abbas Zafar‘s crime-comedy Detective Sherdil. He is doing a film with Honey Trehan on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots as well.
