Abhishek Bachchan has given some intriguing performances on OTT (we thoroughly enjoyed watching him in Bob Biswas) and we were looking forward to seeing him ace this social comedy.

Dasvi gets a B+ for Abhishek’s acting, and the message it was trying to put across – which on paper sounds great, but unfortunately, it doesn’t quite translate onto the screen.

Storyline:

Ganga Ram Chaudhary (Abhishek) is a corrupt, 8th-pass politician who lands in jail after being involved in an educational scam.

He passes on the reins of power to his timid wifey Bimla Devi (Nimrat) but he’s still managing to pull the strings from the jail. However, his VIP treatment is cut short after Jyoti Deswal, (Yami) a no-nonsense cop enters the scene and brings him to heel.

To get out of doing any hard labour, his lazy ass decides to sit for the 10th exams – vowing that he’d give up being the CM if he fails to pass. Meanwhile, Bimla Devi has tasted power as the Boss Bitch and doesn’t wanna go back to being the Bumbling Biwi anymore. So, sabotage time!

What Do We Think?

It was an interesting and hilarious premise, no doubt. But inconsistent storytelling and dragged pacing make Dasvi a rather boring watch. The comedy fell flat too.

There is also a weird bhelpuri of Lage Raho Munnabhai, Taare Zameen Par and Rang De Basanti in the middle… which doesn’t work.

Abhishek has acted well but seems caricaturish in some moments. He has managed to nail the accent though. The same can’t be said for Yami Gautam’s Haryanvi. It is on and off at some points. Yami gives an earnest enough performance but there is something LACKING in Dasvi.

Nimrat Kaur, on the other hand, seemed to be having a hoot playing Bimla Devi! It was fun to watch her onscreen. We feel the movie had the comic potential but the average screenplay failed to elevate it.

Hit Or Miss?

If you also belong to the ‘Abhishek Bachchan is an underrated actor’ squad then you can watch it. We feel this one is a miss, because even though the actors have tried to do justice to their roles, the film is rather bland overall.
