Out of the recent offerings, this delightful dark comedy is sure to be an enjoyable watch. While I’ve not seen the original Tamil film, the basic plot appears to be more or less the same. But Janhvi is the surprise package on the table!

Storyline –

Sweet, naive, doe-eyed Jerry (Janhvi) can’t seem to catch a break. Her father’s dead, her mother’s (Mita Vashist) got lung cancer, and she has a younger sister to look after. Jerry also has to fend off quite a few Roadside Romeos (Deepak Dobriyal being one of them) who are eyeing her and her lil sis.

Their family Momos ain’t bringing in the money to cover the medical bills. After accidentally sabotaging a gang’s drug delivery, Jerry is reluctantly drawn into the drug peddling business. But she’s like – Shuru majboori mai kiye the but ab maza aa raha hai.

Jerry also isn’t as naive as she looks; pulling the strings cleverly while putting her damsel-in-distress face and big bambi eyes to good use whenever required.

But once in, drugs are a tricky business to get out of – and when Jerry tries to quit, shit hits the fan pretty quickly. Watch Good Luck Jerry to see how this black comedy unfolds!

What Do We Think?

Since Aanand L Rai is one of the producers, the authenticity of the small-town charm is intact and that regional tadka hits right! Deepak Dobriyal, a frequent collaborator with Rai, is hilarious as ever.

Good Luck Jerry Movie Review

Mita Vashisht is dependable as usual and gives a solid performance. Janhvi’s casting for Jerry is quite ideal and it plays to her strengths- she looks believable as the meek, mild-mannered small-town girl with an underlying cunning streak. Her Bihari accent is shaky in places, but she has nailed the subtle and soft acting, so one can overlook these few snags.

Janhvi has made a very interesting choice with Good Luck Jerry and we hope she continues to shine in content-oriented projects like this.

Overall, Good Luck Jerry balances the comedy and the menacing tone of the film nicely. In the middle it does falter slightly – with some sequences dragging past their comic potential. Towards the end, the plot goes through a WTF rigmarole … but Good Luck Jerry still has a satisfactory climax.

Hit Or Miss:

Good Luck Jerry is entertaining AF and one of Janhvi’s best performances! You can go, stream it on Disney + Hotstar if you’re in the mood for some chuckles.
