Rating: 3/5

Duration: 2 Hours 17 Mins

Storyline:

Major (played by Siddhant Chaturvedi) and Gullu (played by Ishaan Khatter) are two jobless, good-for-nothing best friends. They are mad horror fans and their abode looks like a spooky horror movie sets. After receiving an ultimatum from their respective fathers, Major and Gullu host a horror-themed party which turns out to be a huge flop. However, the party makes them stumble upon a hot bhootni, Ragini (played by Katrina Kaif).

After realising that the two can actually see ghosts and can be a bridge between the world of the living and that of the dead, Major and Gullu become ghostbusters with the help of Ragini. The trio start a business called Phone Bhoot through which they help bhatakti aatmas attain ‘Moksh‘ (salvation).

Meanwhile, Ragini comes into the boys’ lives with a purpose, which soon brings Major and Gullu into a conflict with an evil tantrik Aatmaram (played by Jackie Shroff). The tantrik captures spirits promising moksh but uses them for his sinister benefits.

What Do We Think?

First things first, the humour is the strongest part of this horror-comedy, while the story is the weakest. Siddhant and Ishaan’s camaraderie will remind you of Amar-Prem from Andaaz Apna Apna. From their cliché-yet-funny one-liners to their comic timings and dance moves, the the duo shine throughout the movie.

On the other hand, Katrina is treat to watch. The actress brings in the star power in Phone Bhoot and lends a decent support.

From Katrina Kaif’s Slice advertisement to Tiger Shroff‘s Heropanti dialogue ‘Choti Bachchi Ho Kya?’ to various references from Excel Entertainment’s (producer of the film) previous outings like Fukrey and Mirzapur and even a tribute to Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Phone Bhoot is a laughter riot.

Jackie Shroff is effortless in his ‘Bhidu’ mode. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that it’s him who changes the gear of the movie for the better in the 2nd half. Sheeba Chadha as a Bengali chudail seems to be a bit lost in the plot.

Phone Bhoot is a horror comedy which clearly ignores the ‘horror’ part. This bhayaanak comedy has its own hits and misses.

Hit Or Miss?

In a nutshell, if you are looking for a weekend watch, Phone Bhoot is no-brainer horror-comedy which is worth a one-time watch.
