Rating: 4/5

Director:  Anirudh Iyer

Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana, Jaideep Ahlawat

Runtime: 2h 9m

Storyline:

Superstar Maanav (Ayushmann Khurrana with a fully-ripped bod) is acing the reel life when unfortunate circumstances force him to be an ‘action hero’ in real life as well.

Maanav accidentally kills Vicky, who turns out to be the brother of the pehelwan-cum-politician Bhoora (Jaideep Ahlawat). In panic, Maanav flees to London instead of surrendering. A vengeful Bhoora arrives in UK, hot on Maanav’s heels, hell-bent on killing the actor.

Cue a mad cat-n-mouse game begins. Back in India, there is media trial going on against Maanav. Throw in a famous faraar terrorist, a hacker and some stupefied RAW agents and you’ve got yourself a hilarious action comedy!

What Do We Think:

An Action Hero is a highly entertaining madcap adventure from start to finish. Ayushmann has successfully broken out of his ‘poster boy for social comedy‘ image with this adrenaline-packed extravaganza. His physical transformation is commendable and he appears to be having the time of his life in this indulgent action comedy.

Kudos to Khurrana for experimenting. The action sequences (especially the parkour scenes) are pretty fun for the most part (albeit you have to ignore quite a few glaring loopholes). The fights do tend to get a little repetitive after a while though. Even so, there is never a dull moment in this fast-paced actioner.

An Action Hero Movie Review

Jaideep Ahlawat is an absolute hoot as the revenge-obsessed Bhoora. His chemistry with Ayushmann works great and their face-off scenes pack a punch! The satire on the Indian news channel (drugs do drugs do drugs do hahaha) will leave you chuckling.

Overall, An Action Hero showcases Ayushmann in a never-before-seen role, that he has totally carried off.

Hit Or Miss:

If you’re in the mood for high-octane action sequences, An Action Hero is the right fit for you this weekend at the theatres.
