Nora Fatehi recently filed a defamation suit against Jacqueline Fernandez.
She had alleged that Fernandez was making defamatory remarks against her for ‘malicious reasons’; to destroy her career.
For the unversed, both actresses are involved in the 200-crore scamster Sukesh Chandrashekhar’s case. While Jacqueline is named as ‘an accused’ in the case, Fatehi’s status in the suit is as a ‘witness’.
Fatehi’s plea objected to Jacqueline’s statement; that she was being ‘falsely implicated’ by ED while Nora who had also received gifts from Sukesh, was merely made a witness.
Jacqueline’s lawyer Prashant Patil, however, stated that she has never spoken ill about Nora on any public or private platform. Giving statement during an investigation is not defamation, as it is not done in the public domain, Fernandez’s lawyer reiterated.
Jacqueline’s team has not received official confirmation of the suit. However, if the matter reaches the court, Jacqueline is ready to fight back aggressively with a countersuit.
An industry source said – “It’s shocking that Nora has filed a defamation on media as well as Jacqueline. Saying somethings to competent authorities during an ongoing investigation is not defamation. It’s not as if Jacqueline has given media quotes and held a press conference in the matter. She has only co operated in investigation and is fighting her case. Actually since the case is an ongoing investigation Jacqueline has maintained a very dignified media silence on the issue.”
