The dying Nawab (Raza Murad) wishes to instate his son Kadar (Abhimanyu Singh) in his stead. Unbeknownst to him, Nawab’s so-called political friends are conspiring to kill Kadar and have one of their own on the throne.

Nawab and Kadar’s right-hand man Javed (Jimmy Shergill) alerts them of the betrayal and proposes killing off the entire gang before they can make their move. The sly and ambitious Javed seems to be one step ahead of everyone and carefully leads the controlled chaos, even taking DCP Ajay Joshi (Indraneil Sengupta) for a spin.

What Do We Think:

Indraneil Sengupta - Aazam Movie Review

Aazam is a thrilling ride from start to finish. The screenplay is tight and maintains the tension and political intrigue with constant twists and clever manoeuvres by Jimmy Shergill’s character.

Aazam Movie Review scene

The ruthless power struggle is characterised by sleek, swift, effective action as the opponents get outsmarted rapidly. In the middle, things go a little too smoothly and the plot starts feeling contrived with the odds ever in Shergill’s favour. But the climax is excellently twisted and raises the stakes again.

Jimmy Shergill

Instead of being replete with gore and gaalis, Aazam’s focus lies more on the mind games and calculated action as Jimmy Shergill’s character masquerades as a pawn but ends up becoming the most powerful piece on the chessboard.

Jimmy Shergill as the cold, cunning and manipulative Javed is in top-notch form and has done full justice to the character. One of his most convincingly formidable performances for sure. Abhimanyu Singh has limited screen time but has done his part effectively. Indraneil Sengupta as the cop ends up being the surprising dark horse in this tale.

Overall, Aazam is an engaging gangster drama and it’s fascinating to watch the schemes unfold…

Hit Or Miss:

Definitely worth watching once on the big screen! Go catch it in the theatres near you… you’ll leave impressed by Jimmy’s performance.
