Ghoomer Storyline:

Anina (Saiyami Kher) is a talented cricketer who is on the verge of making her international debut in cricket. Her Grandmother (Shabana Azmi) is absolutely devoted to her progress and leaves no stone unturned in nurturing her.

Anina has a cute love interest (Angad Bedi) trailing after her too and it seems things are all coming together for her, personally and professionally. However, she keeps crossing paths with the cynical Padam aka Paddy (Abhishek Bachchan); a bitter drunkard and failed cricketer. He keeps bashing her performance, leaving her seething and disheartened.

On the eve of the biggest night of her cricket career, Anina gets into a fatal accident which cripples her. Paddy becomes a ray of hope in the suicidal Anina’s life, after he takes up coaching her. Under his mentoring, she learns a new game-changing trick that she can use to her advantage for getting back into the team!

What Do We Think:

Ghoomer is a captivating sports drama, showing the perseverance and resilience of a disabled girl, who despite all odds manages to create history! It has moments of unexpected hilarity, played perfectly by Abhishek Bachchan.

The 1st half while routine, is engaging nonetheless; there’s never a dull moment. Saiyami Kher does not miss a beat as Anina – capturing her easy confidence and tomboyish flair in the 1st half, her disdain for Abhishek Bachchan’s character and the absolute agony at losing her hand in the accident.

Ghoomer: Abhishek Bachchan, Saiyami Kher
Ghoomer: Abhishek Bachchan, Saiyami Kher

Saiyami is absolutely fierce and passionate in this role, perfectly cast indeed. She keeps the emotion raw and real. Abhishek Bachchan has played an intriguing role as the grumpy, tough-love cricket coach, whose good intentions shine through his actions, in stark contrast to his acerbic words.

Abhishek-Saiyami’s mentor-mentee dynamic is the soul of Ghoomer. Bachchan Junior also shares a heartwarming bond with Ivanka Das, who plays his rakhi sister on the screen. Their relationship provides some very wholesome and funny scenes, breaking the otherwise tense atomosphere of Ghoomer wonderfully. Abhishek Bachchan’s snappy wisecracks will leave you chuckling throughout the film.

Shabana Azmi is wonderful to watch as the affectionate yet no-nonsense grandmother. Angad Bedi is in a limited role, but a supportive, green flag sweetheart nevertheless.

Overall, Ghoomer is a total winner – engaging plot, entertaining games, wonderful performances! And a rollercoaster ride of emotions, humour and drama!

Is Ghoomer Hit Or Miss:

Definitely deserves to be watched once on the big screen. Fierce performance by an absolutely stellar Saiyami and a hilarious snarky Abhishek to look forward to.
