Mission Raniganj True Story –

Akshay Kumar’s Mission Raniganj has been inspired by a shocking true story – the 1989 Raniganj coal mine disaster in West Bengal.

Akshay steps into the shoes of Late Jaswant Singh Gill, an engineer who led a challenging rescue mission to save 65 trapped miners from a flooded coal mine. This edge-of-the-seat thriller highlights Gill’s courage and relentless efforts, showcasing his resilience to overcome adversities.

On his special effort to rescue the trapped miners, Gill had said, “You get only one life, you need to make it count. Everything happened so suddenly that no one had the time to think.”

For his bravery, Jaswant Gill was awarded the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak in 1991 and Bhagat Singh Puran award. Moreover, Gill’s brave act was also mentioned in the Limca Book of Records.

In Mission Raniganj, Akshay is reuniting with his Kesari co-star Parineeti Chopra again. The cast of Mission Raniganj also includes Kumud Mishra, Rajesh Sharma, Pavan Malhotra, Ravi Kishan, Dibyendu Bhattacharya and Varun Badola.

Release Date:

Scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 6th October 2023. Directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhaghani, Deepshikha Deshmukh and Ajay Kapoor.

For the unversed, the film was previously titled The Great Indian Rescue. It has now been rechristened with Mission Raniganj – The Great Bharat Rescue.

This change seems to be done in accordance with the current raging debate – whether India should officially be renamed Bharat or not!

Akshay was last seen in OMG 2, a game-changing film addressing the taboos of sex education in India. The OMG sequel has crossed 220 crores at the box office till now. If reports are to be believed then he allegedly didn’t charge any fees for the social drama!
