Joram Movie Review:

Manoj Bajpayee’s Joram is an excellent social drama cum action thriller. It makes important social commentary on the rising exploitation of tribal land under the name of progress.

Joram revolves around the plight of Manoj Bajpayee’s Dasru – a simple tribal man, who’s forced into rebelling against a corrupt system. He’s caught between a rock and a hard place; on one hand the rebels don’t allow the tribals to give into the government’s development schemes, ruthlessly killing anyone who cooperates.

On the other, the government is stuffing the tribals by hordes into the jail for being ‘rebel sympathisers’. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Dasru’s dilemma is captured perfectly in Joram, stuck in constant flight or flight, just trying to survive peacefully. A seasoned actor like Manoj Bajpayee gets into the skin of his character Dasru flawlessly.

His look, and his demeanour completely reflect the panic and chaos surrounding a conflicted migrant worker. He portrays the desperation, helplessness as well as the indomitable perseverance of Dasru well. It is one of Manoj’s most rousing performances, making you sympathize with the character’s pathetic condition. His dialect is on point. Tannishtha Chatterjee appears in a brief but impactful special appearance as his wife.

Joram Movie Review:

Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub plays the cop with the conscience, whose hands are unfortunately tied while witnessing injustice. Zeeshan does a good job of conveying the guilt, reluctance and conflict of Ratnakar’s character. He gets a satisfying arc in Joram.

Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub

Manoj and Zeeshan’s chase scene in the the train, forms one of the action highlights of the movie. There’s an equally thrilling yet bleak confrontation scene in the climax of Joram. The film manages to maintain a tense almost claustrophobic air of paranoia in the action sequences.

Joram Movie Review:

Smita Tambe as the menacing politician Phulo takes the cake. She gives herself completely to the character and is especially expressive with her eyes – reflecting her rage, despair and cunning. It is an interesting character for sure – a passive housewife, who turns into an ambitious, vengeful woman after an unfortunate incident derails her life. The pawn who becomes the queen.

The ambiguous ending of Joram is indeed thought-provoking, though the shoot-out scene may require a certain degree of suspension of disbelief.

Hit Or Miss:

Joram is as raw and real as it gets and features one of the most intense performances of Manoj Bajpayee. It is definitely worth your attention – go catch this riveting flick at the theatres near you.
