It was later revealed to be a marketing stunt for cervical cancer awareness. While some thought the move was bold, audacious and brave, most of the netizens were outraged at the actress for making a mockery of a serious topic like cancer.

As per reports, a 100-crore defamation case has been filed against the actress and her ex-husband Sam Bombay by one Faizan Ansari.

“Poonam Pandey and her husband Sam Bombay conspired to stage her death, making a mockery of a serious illness like cancer. Poonam Pandey orchestrated this stunt for her personal publicity, betraying the trust of millions of Indians and the entire Bollywood industry,” the complaint read.

Poonam’s fake death stunt from cervical cancer ignited a firestorm of debate. Netizens cautioned that legal action to be taken, saying that such false promotional campaigns set a dangerous precedent for advertising.

Celebs like Ektaa R Kapoor, Pooja Bhatt, Tahira Kashyap, Vivek Agnihotri, Aly Goni, Prince Narula among others took to social media and slammed the actress for faking her death.

Rakhi Sawant and Uorfi Javed also took a dig at Poonam over her insensitive stunt. The actress also faced the wrath of the outraged netizens.
