Shahrukh Khan is set to make a swift return as Pathaan, with Yash Raj Studios reportedly finalizing a script for Pathaan 2.
According to a report, production for the film is scheduled to commence by the end of this year. Pathaan, featuring Shah Rukh Khan as a JOCR agent, has been a resounding success.
Pathaan 2 will be the eighth installment in the YRF spy universe, following Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, Tiger 3, War 2, and Tiger Vs Pathaan. A source revealed, “This is a twist to the YRF Spy Universe timeline – Pathaan 2 will predate Tiger vs Pathaan and will set up the clash of two cinematic legends on the big screen.”
Following its release in January 2023, Pathaan became a blockbuster, marking the first Hindi film to surpass the coveted ₹1000 crore milestone at the box office post the Covid-19 pandemic-induced slowdown. The movie, which also featured Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, portrayed Shah Rukh Khan as an R&AW agent establishing a new JOCR division to combat terrorism. Deepika played the role of ISI agent Rubina, while John Abraham portrayed a soldier-turned-terrorist, with a special role by Dimple Kapadia.
“Pathaan 2 is being designed as the tentpole spy film of the universe that will set things up for a bigger conflict in the times to come. It will set up the next phase of YRF Spy Universe’s timeline. In fact, P2 sets things up for the big battle between Tiger and Pathaan (Tiger vs Pathaan) in the future timeline,” added the source.
Although Shah Rukh Khan has not officially announced his next film, reports suggest he is working on King with his daughter, Suhana Khan, while Deepika Padukone is set to appear in Kalki 2898 AD.
