In January 2022, the couple had announced their separation in a joint statement on social media after 18 years of being together!

Dhanush and Aishwaryaa have been legally separated for two years and have now filed for a mutual divorce at a Chennai court.
The joint statement that they had previously released read, “18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting and adapting… Today we stand at a place where our paths separate… Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better. Please do Respect our decision and give us the needed privacy to deal with this. Om Namashivaaya!”
Dhanush and Aishwaryaa (who is South superstar Rajinikanth’s eldest daughter) got married on 18 November 2004. They also have two sons – Yatra and Linga.

The soon-to-be-divorced couple had worked together in 3 (which was Aishwaryaa’s debut). On the work front, Dhanush has Ilayaraaja, Raayan, and Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam.
