Ali isn’t one to shy away from vulnerability. When asked if his troubled early years affected the kind of person he has become, he offered a thoughtful take.

“However many problems we have in life, whether in childhood or the pain we carry, everybody goes through different traumas. Somewhere, that becomes your expression. I’m not saying it’s a necessary criteria. But a sort of contemplation develops because of that. The habit of pausing to think.”

That quiet reflection seems to be the foundation of his work today. Ali explained that the pain doesn’t just vanish. It lingers, brews beneath the surface, and eventually spills into his art. You can see it in the characters he picks, the way he delivers dialogues, and the way he’s constantly reinventing himself as an artist.

But it wasn’t just emotional. It was practical too. Life pushed him into adulthood a bit earlier than most. From a young age, he had to take charge of things most kids are never even asked to think about.

“Some Incidents Happen That Teach You In A Single Jolt” – Ali Fazal

“Yeah, I had to grow up early. There were certain things I had to handle myself. Some incidents happen that teach you in a single jolt. And so many strange and bizarre things are happening in the world today that we don’t understand anything. I feel like we’re still quite privileged. I have a roof over my head. I have food to eat. Everyone has something from their childhood. We’re artists, so those things stay with us. They grow somewhere inside and then come out. Somewhere, their glimpse shows up in our craft.”

That deep sense of gratitude and awareness?Ali doesn’t forget where he came from. In fact, his bond with his late mother is a huge part of his journey. He’s always been protective of her, and he credits a lot of his maturity to the responsibility he had to shoulder early on.
