Nishaanchi Movie Review: Aaishvary Thackeray Excels In His Debut With A Superb Double Role

Rating: 3.5/5

Cast: Aaishvary Thackeray, Vedika Pinto, Monika Panwar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Kumud Mishra, and Vineet Kumar Singh

Director: Anurag Kashyap

Storyline:

Nishaanchi sets the stage for a desi gangster dhamaka with a twist… twin brothers caught in the crossfire of love, loyalty, and betrayal. Making his debut in a double role, Aaishvary Thackeray plays Babloo and Dabloo, sons of Manjari (Monika Panwar) and the pehelwan Jabardast (Vineet Kumar Singh).

The brothers grow up poles apart in personality. Babloo carries the full-on gunda vibe; juvenile delinquent-turned-gangster – daredevil and hot-headed, always ready to throw a punch. Dabloo, on the other hand, is the meeker, docile brother.

Vedika Pinto sizzles as Rinku, a feisty dancer who stirs up trouble in their lives, while Kumud Mishra’s Ambika Prasad pulls strings from the shadows as a scheming gangster, wreaking havoc in Jabardast’s life. At the heart of it all is Manjari, standing tall as a fierce and righteous mother.

What follows is a rollercoaster of dushmani, politics, betrayal, and pure gangster swag, with Kashyap serving up heartland drama loaded with revenge, passion, and full-on tamasha.

Nishaanchi Movie Review:

Nishaanchi is a fun ride for the most part, with Anurag Kashyap going back to the space where he truly shines. The film has that bold, small-town gangster flavour Kashyap is known for, packed with earthy detail, quirky humour, and immersive atmosphere. The mannerisms feel lived-in, the setting feels authentic, and the vibe pulls you in.

Add to that some catchy tracks and a mood that rarely lets go, and you’ve got a film that definitely entertains. The intro song especially is a riot… playful, cheeky, and the perfect curtain raiser. A couple of other songs may not land as well, but the soundtrack overall adds to the film’s swagger.

When it comes to acting, there’s absolutely nothing to nitpick; the entire cast brings their A-game and holds the film together. Aaishvary Thackeray makes an electric debut and proves he is more than up for the challenge. Playing two drastically different characters right from the start is no easy task, but he manages to bring a clear distinction between them with remarkable ease. His physicality, body language, and even the way he handles diction and dialogue delivery – it all feels sharp and convincing. On top of that, he shows off his musical chops too, composing Pigeon Kabootar and lending his voice to the soulful Neend Bhi Teri. Honestly, a very impressive all-round debut.

Nishaanchi Movie Review:

Vedika Pinto, as the fiery dancer, is refreshing and natural on screen. She brings spunk, charm, and vulnerability in equal measure, while her chemistry with both brothers really works. Her dance numbers are a highlight, but her emotional beats hit just as hard. Monika Panwar is absolutely stellar, delivering a powerhouse performance that anchors the film. Vineet Singh, another dependable actor, gives complete justice to his role and leaves a strong impression. And Kumud Mishra shines with his layered, ambiguous character, reminding us once again of his sheer versatility.

Where the film does stumble is in its pacing. At times, the narrative feels uneven and stretched, making certain portions tedious. The flow is not always smooth and the plot goes haywire in some moments. But even with these hiccups, Nishaanchi still ends up being a gritty, entertaining gangster ride with plenty of style and heart.
