Former Pakistani Captain Shahid Afridi tests positive for coronavirus

With an extremely shocking message from the all-rounder former Captain Shahid Afridi, 2020 just got worse. Taking to twitter, Afridi tweets a heartfelt message for the world as he discloses him being COVID-19 positive.

We all wish we could turn back time and start this year all over, erasing all these unfortunate events away. The corona virus has affected 213 countries with more than 7 million cases worldwide.

Shahid Afridi played for Pakistan from the years 1996 to 2018 in 27 Tests, 398 One-day Internationals and 99 Twenty20 Internationals. The remarkable cricketer requested prayers for a speedy recovery and we wish him a rapid turn to good health.

Shahid Afridi held the world record for the fastest century in One Day International in 37 deliveries along with holding the record for the most number of sixes in ODI cricket history. The record took 18 years to be broken and it was done by Corey Anderson, New Zealand’s all rounder. The cricketer has taken over 350 wickets and 48 test wickets, again in ODI cricket.

Former Pakistani cricketer Taufeeq Umar who also tested positive for COVID-19 recovered in early June, however Pakistan lost former players Zafar Sarfaraz and Riaz Sheikh due to the virus in the month of April and June respectively.

Afridi’s very own organization, the Shahid Afridi Foundation, has been helping multiple families get their lives back on track after the outbreak of this global pandemic ever since the news of the virus spread. The 40 year old cricketer has made it a point to donate food and disinfectants to many affected families.

Shahid has urged people who are in the position to help to go about and share images and videos of their contributions so that his foundation could recognize the deeds. The SAF volunteers have taken to the streets of Pakistan in food drives to distribute ration to people who are in need of it. The foundation has tied hands with multiple charities who help the same cause.

Shadid Afridi also made sure to put up smiles on the faces of children by going out and about distributing chothing wear, shoes and gifts.

Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh have also expressed their support towards the Shahid Afridi Foundation as they urge fans around to donate and help people in these trying times.
