Saroj Khan Ji Won 8 Filmfare Awards for these Movies

The legendary Indian dance choreographer Saroj Khan passed away today at the age of 71 and Bollywood is devastated. Saroj Khan has worked with many of B-Town’s prominent actors and actresses in some of the most popular dance numbers of the industry.

The Filmfare award ceremony is not just one of the most esteemed award ceremony in the industry but the ‘Black Lady’, as the award is called, is also an honour than Saroj Khan won 8 times for her outstanding choreography.

Here are the 8 films for which she won the Best Choreography award:

1. Guru (2007)

Guru is a romance drama starring Abhishek Bachchan with his lady love Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The songs Nannare and Tere Bina from the movie were choreographed by Saroj Ji for which she won her 8th Filmfare award. In the song Nannare, Aishwarya Rai is seen dancing ever so gracefully to the melody in the rain. Tere Bina has both Abhishek and Aishwarya dancing in a romantic duet.

2. Devdas (2002)

Devdas is an unforgettable movie about a cultural romance starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit. Saroj Khan has choreographed songs from this movie such as Maar Dala and Dola Re which are recognised as some of the best dance numbers ever created in the industry.

Saroj Khan helped Madhuri perfect every move for this song.
Aishwarya’s and Madhuri’s duo turned out to be the reigning audience favourite.

3. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)

This film has Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Ajay Devgn sharing the screen. It is a romance film with Saroj Ji’s choreography numbers. The song Nimbooda received extra fame with Aishwarya Rai’s dance and is considered one of her finest performances.

4. Khalnayak (1993)

Khalnayak is an action thriller starring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff. Saroj Ji had choreographed dance numbers in this movie too for which she won the best choreography. The most famous song from this movie that a lot of dancers still groove to today is Choli Ke Peeche.

5. Beta (1992)

Beta is an Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit blockbuster where the two embark on a romantic journey. Saroj Khan choreographed the classic song Dhak Dhak Karne Laga which turned out to be one of Madhuri Dixit’s best performances.

6. Sailaab (1990)

This Bollywood movie stars Madhuri Dixit and Aditya Pancholi in exciting thriller roles. Saroj Ji choreographed the famous song Humko Aajkal Hai Intezaar that Madhuri so beautifully performed.

7. Chaalbaaz (1989)

With the late legend Sridevi, Rajinikanth and Sunny Deol starring alongside each other in lead roles, Chaalbaaz is a comedy all the 80’s kids enjoyed. Saroj Ji choreographed the song Na Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai for which she won the award.

8. Tezaab (1988)

Tezaab stars Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor in a whirlwind of romance that fans can’t get enough of. This movie has one of Saroj Khan‘s most loved choreographed songs… Ek Do Teen.
