Netflix’s ‘A Suitable Boy’ Is In Trouble? Political Controversy Sparked Over Kissing Scene!

‘A Suitable Boy’, directed by Mira Nair, received appreciation for its cast and the story but now there is a fresh problem with the series.

In a scene from the same, the Hindu character Lata (Tanya Maniktala) is seen kissing her Muslim suitor Kabir Durrani (Danesh Razvi) in a temple.

The leaders of the Bhartiya Janta Party accused the series of ‘hurting religious sentiments’. National President of BJP’s Yuva Morcha, Gaurav Tiwari, shared this scene on Twitter and accused Netflix of promoting ‘love jihad’. Gaurav Tiwari has also apparently registered an FIR against ‘A Suitable Boy’ and Netflix.

The tweet translates to, “In the series ‘A Suitable Boy’, a program by @NetflixIndia, A kissing scene was filmed in the temple courtyard and was shown three times in the same episode. According to the script, a Hindu woman is in love with a Muslim young man, but why was the kissing scene shot in the temple courtyard? I have lodged an FIR in Rewa on this matter.

Along with this, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra told, I have instructed authorities to check what legal action can be taken against these scenes on the Netflix OTT platform and the producer-director of the series.”

Gaurav Tiwari posted another tweet saying, Do you have a ‘creative freedom’ to shoot in a mosque during azaan @NetflixIndia The Do not consider the tolerance of Hindus as their weakness, it is an insult not only to Madhya Pradesh but also to Lord Shiva and crores of Shiva devotees. Will have to apologize.”

Rani Ahilyabai Holkar dedicated Maheshwar Ghat to Shiva devotees. Thousands of stone age Shivalingas are his identity. On @NetflixIndia This holy land is being used to promote love-jihad and hurt Hindu sentiments. Today I am removing Netflix from my phone. and you?” read the tweet.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Goel, without naming the show, tweeted, If any OTT platform is deliberately insulting the Hindu Gods & Goddess, pls file the complaint with the police or local court under Section 295A of IPC. The law will take care of such offenders.”
