EXCLUSIVE: Singer Vishal Mishra Talks About New Track ‘Woh Chaand Kahan Se Laogi’, Destressing With PlayStation & Chai

Singer and composer Vishal Mishra has come up with his latest track which was released on the 25th of November titled ‘Woh Chaand Kahan Se Laogi’.

Starring Urvashi Rautela and Mohsin Khan, the video is a sight to behold and it is certain to usher feelings in your heart.

In conversation with Vishal Mishra, we’ve learnt so much from him about his music and of course, his love for games and Chai.

How deeply can you relate to the song?

I absolutely can relate to the song. That is the beauty of music because you can make your own story. People who cannot express their feelings by plain words do it through music. When you hear music that you can relate to, you feel like you are being heard! It’s all about understanding at the end of the day. This song is something that I felt for because of the times we are in, facing difficulties and being away from the people we love. That’s why I thought why not make a song which is very basic and general in nature which speaks for everyone who has had a hint of emotion and songs are the language of love.

When did you fall in love with music?

I’m still falling in love with music every day and I think that’s how it’s supposed to be. I think when you first fall in love, if you give it all at once, the love gets over. That is why I discover music every day and I keep falling in love with it every day. I feel I’m blessed because I have the power of not just understanding music but understanding people and emotions too. I’ve come from Uttar Pradesh to Bombay and I’ve seen a lot of places, a lot of people and they have a lot of dreams so I thought why not make music for people like that?

Who is your musical inspiration?

I’ve never wanted to be like anybody because I’ve never had this thought in my head. Even if someone is teaching me something bad or doing the things I don’t want, that’s also a lesson because then I get to know what are the things that I don’t want to do. If someone does good then you learn so much from him/her. During my childhood, I remember I used to steal batteries from my daddy’s watches and put it in his Walkman and listen to songs. I was scared because where I used to live, music as a profession is not something that was looked up to. Either I’ve to become an IAS or a doctor or something that was of value. But now I’m so glad that in that area because of me there are people in MP, Bihar, they dream because of me. There is so much to discover in music, it’s like a human heart. You can never know it all.

Genres of music you like listening to?

I listen to everything in any language from Italian to Latin to Romanian to Russian to Arabic. Everything is my favourite. These days I’m tripping on reggaeton because I’ve been listening to so many reggaeton songs, I love R&B and there is this song that I heard called ‘Sick Thoughts’ a few days back. It’s a very psy-trance contemporary song. What I look for in a song is how much heart does the song have. Genre is something that I don’t care about, it’s the heart of the song.

If you weren’t a music artist, what would your profession be?

I was studying law so I would’ve been a lawyer. I was also very good at it. I used to make a good deal out of my internships going here and there. I wanted to become a lawyer till 2010 but then in 2013 I came to Bombay.

What’s something new that you did during the lockdown?

When the lockdown was really strict, I thought that why not cook? Because I had never tried my hand on that so 20 days I was without my staff and I did the cooking. But within those 20 days I realised one thing and that I should never cook. I am horrible at it. People feel when you cook your own food you love it but I hated whatever I was cooking.

How do you mentally and vocally prepare yourself before recording a track?

I play PlayStation. I disconnect myself from the song and although I cannot disconnect myself from music, I disconnect my mind from the chords and the instruments. So I go I play FIFA, Call of Duty, at times I play with my friends, I play cricket.

What kind of food can you not live without?

Chai. Chai is the best thing in the world and I can’t survive without it. I basically have this big cup in my house which no one else touches and I make my own tea and drink it. I start my day with it and consume it whenever I’m stressed.
