Bombay HC Rules in Kangana Ranaut’s Favour in Demolition Case; BMC Has To Pay Damages!

On September 9, BMC had demolished alleged ‘illegal’ construction at Kangana Ranaut’s office-cum-residential bungalow in Pali Hill.

Much outrage followed the act, and the actress took the civic body to court to stop the demolition drive and also demanded 2 crores for damages.

The Kangana Ranaut vs BMC case had been going on for quite some time, but today the Bombay High Court cancelled BMC demolition notice and ruled in the Manikarnika actress’s favour.

The High Court observed that BMC had acted out of malice and would have to pay Ranaut for the damage done to her property.

As per India Today report, Bombay HC stated that though it disapproved of Kangana’s loose statements against the government and believed the actress should have shown restraint in her remarks, it also observed that ‘muscle power cannot used by the state in a civil society’.

“The action by BMC was with malice. The manner in which the demolition was carried out meant that it was a sinister attempt to silence Kangana,” the division bench of Justice S J Kathawalla and Justice Riyaz Chagla commented while passed the judgment.

The court has also said that Kangana can recover the damages of the demolition drive from BMC and apply to them for reconstruction of the area. It has ordered that the valuation of the damages done to Kangana’s property has to be completed by an architect within three months.

“She can also apply for regularisation of those areas which are not demolished,” said the court.

The Queen actress welcomed the court’s decision and took to Twitter to celebrate her triumph.

In the aftermath of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, Kangana Ranaut has been embroiled in one controversy after the other and is engaged in an ugly tussle with the Mumbai Police and the Maharashtra Government.
