Gangubai Kathiawadi is one of the most highly anticipated period dramas from Sanjay Leela Bhansali this year.
Starring Alia Bhatt in the titular role, this grand project already has been receiving tempting offers for a direct-to-OTT premiere.
However, Bhansali will first release the film in theatres, and only then stream it on OTT. The shooting for Gangubai, which commenced in November last year, will most likely be finished by March.
That being said, even before the film is ready – the makers have already struck a lucrative deal with NETFLIX for its digital rights. Bollywood Hungama has reported that Gangubai Kathiawadi’s POST-RELEASE streaming rights have been sold to Netflix for INR 70 CRORES, with the paperwork underway. It will reportedly be released post-August.
Bhansali will also be teaming up with Netflix for an 8-episode web series, his passion project actually – ‘Heera Mandi’. Set amidst the late 1800s to mid-1950s, the show is a big-scale costume drama revolving around prostitutes in the red light area in the Walled City of Lahore!Â
Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Nimrat Kaur, Sayani Gupta and Manisha Koirala and most recently Kartik Aryan have reportedly joined Heera Mandi’s cast.
