Nowadays movies on historical figures have become the latest trend in Bollywood.
Earlier, Shahid Kapoor had played Maharawal Ratan Singh in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’.
Now, reports have been doing rounds that Shahid will be reuniting with the ‘Kabir Singh’ producer Ashwin Varde for a period movie in which he will reportedly be playing the character of the brave Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji.
As per the latest Bollywood Hungama report, producer Ashwin Varde has supposedly joined hands with ‘Lyca Productions’ and is planning to make “a mammoth period saga based on the life and triumphs of Chhatrapati Shivaji.” And Ashwin has apparently approached Shahid for the lead role.
“Ashwin Varde has joined hands with ‘Lyca Productions’ who are soon going to make their foray in Bollywood in a big way. They are discussing multiple co-production ventures with producers and one of them is a mammoth period saga based on the life and triumphs of Chhatrapati Shivaji,” a source revealed to the portal.
“Ashwin has approached Shahid Kapoor to star in the film. Shahid has loved the idea and if he says yes, this will be his second-period saga after ‘Padmaavat’ but unlike the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, he will play the titular role in this one. Shahid and Ashwin have worked together on Kabir Singh previously and they are now locking modalities before they sign the contract,” the source added.
For the unversed, many people have been trying to make a movie on the brave warrior for the longest time but none of them has gone on floors yet.
Riteish Deshmukh has apparently decided to make a multi-lingual pan-India movie on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with him as the lead. There were even talks of Ali Abbas Zafar doing a movie on Shivaji with Salman Khan in it.
However, Shahid is now gearing up for his web debut with Raj & DK’s web series.
